Scarlet Fever A second possible scarlet fever death: Macao recorded forty-nine cases of scarlet fever this year, a notable increase compared with the same period of final year, the Macao Daily Times reported Wednesday. The newspaper quoted argument by the region's Health Bureau as saying that the figure was much higher than twenty-nine and sixteen cases respectively in 2009 and 2010. Among the forty-nine folks diagnosed with scarlet fever this year, thirty-five were boys and fourteen were girls, and that fifty-three percent of them aged between five and eight, and another forty-one percent between two and 4 years old, the argument said. In May alone, the highest number of sixteen cases was reported. The Health Bureau urged parents and schools to keep a close eye on their children and students and to report any suspicious cases, adding that it is closely monitoring the situation.
