Washoe County School District: Washoe County School District, Assembly Democrats today unveiled a bill, they acknowledged that jobs would open a large hole in the budget proposed by Governor Brian Sandoval. Assemblywoman Debbie Smith, D-Reno, is preparing to introduce a bill, it was the trade last summer that would allow school districts to use part of their reserve funds to finance the rehabilitation of aging schools . The funding not only assist districts to address crumbling schools and more, but help put construction workers back to work, "she said. Sandoval has already proposed using that money to fund the operating costs of districts, a proposal that both Washoe and Clark counties have been fighting. Clark County School District officials said they rely on that money to make bond payments in the face of property values plummeting. Taking funds would require it to restructure its debt at a substantial cost. But Smith is to assist the Washoe County, which has access to much less than the Fund's capital-Clark County, to rehab his former school. His bill would allow districts to use these reserves if it were a financially viable option for them.
Sandoval proposal would require school districts to use money to support basic school.
(AP) - Governor Brian Sandoval quickly denounced on Tuesday a bill that would allow school districts to use money from bonds to finance the reserves for school improvement, saying it's a snack that would leave a gaping hole in its budget spending plan.
Sandoval has proposed using money from the reserve requirement in his State of the State speech in January. On Tuesday, Assembly Democrats unveiled a similar measure that would reduce from 12 months to six districts of the amount needed to maintain reserve accounts for payment.
The difference is that the plan Sandoval $ 425 million reserve to fund school operations. Another bill sponsored by Assemblywoman Debbie Smith, D-Sparks, would preserve the money that was approved by local voters for capital projects.
In a written statement, Sandoval said the Democrats' plan "and leaves a hole of 400 million in the state budget, taking the extra money on wages and teachers."
"In these difficult times, the reserve funds proposed to be redirected to the construction under the plan should instead be spent on aid to school districts to focus on their core mission of educating students."
Smith said his bill, called "School Works" would be immediately released and 80 million for the school district in Washoe County to repair old schools and create jobs.
