Hook Film

Hook Film: What's more fun to watch than the four most acclaimed actors, who are now working on behaving badly? Not much, if just released the trailer for Roman Polanski's "Carnage" you must believe. Adaptation of Tony Award winning play by Yasmina Reza's "God of Carnage," feels like an Oscar-winning director and his extraordinary cast was not in possession of an advantage to play back bitter. In the film adaptation, Jodie Foster, Kate Winslet, Christoph Walz and John C. Reilly play two sets of parents who meet to sort out a dispute between their young children. What begins as a cordial discussion quickly devolves into an all-out verbal war, where each couple’s prejudices and contradictions are laid bare. The whole affair takes place in an apartment. Judging by the unnerving preview, Polanski’s back to his old games of ratcheting up tension in a confined space (see “The Ghost Writer” or “Rosemary’s Baby” to get an idea), something he does like no other. And that cast! Though everyone appears to be in top form, the show-stopper in the clip comes courtesy of Winslet when she loses her cool mid-way through the spot, slobbering her way through a vitriolic rant that leaves Reilly understandably stunned. The film opens with the next Film Festival New York Sept. 30 and hits U.S. theaters in limited release December 16th via Sony Pictures Classics
